About Sinthamani Divine Life Ashram
At the tender age of 17, Praveen’s life took a turn when he chanced upon a little boy eating out of a garbage bin where he was having supper with his friend at Banting. He was so moved that he vowed to dedicate his entire life in helping the starving and troubled children who crossed his path after that. The Sinthamani Ashram was subsequently established in 2001 to provide needy and underprivileged children a peaceful and a safe environment home where they can be educated and learn values ranging from fraternity, solidarity and eventually independence.

Located on a temple land, the Ashram’s first home was Praveen’s home inherited from his grandfather. It began with 4-5 children from the streets and broken families. Soon, the number grew and they moved to a rented, shabby wooden house at a monthly rental of RM150 in Jinjang Utara.

With the help of the public, a lot of upgrading was done ever since. There were no proper toilet facilities with their exiting toilet was a distance from the main house. In 2002, with the help of good Samaritans and Praveen’s savings, they renovated the Ashram.

The Ashram currently houses 49 children with the youngest aged 2.5 years and oldest 21 years old. There are also 4 single mothers who assist with the children’s daily needs, cooking, cleaning etc. as well as 3 aged folks. The monthly expenses to run the Ashram cost around RM15,000 per month to provide meals, education, transport, groceries and toiletries, medical, optical and other miscellaneous needs to the residents.
