Backgound Info

This is a care centre for the aged whom had been abandoned by their families, totaling 55 dependants of which 15 are women and the rest men. Many of this elderly was admitted to hospitals by their own children, family, or relatives. When they are well enough to be discharged, their next of kin could not be contacted because all information given — names, addresses and contact numbers — were false. They are abandoned with nowhere to go.

Hospitals in the Klang Valley and even beyond have been sending them to this particular home for the aged because they too are at a loss of what to do. Some folks are immobile and in need of nursing care but unfortunately, volunteers who can spare the time, come visit only once or twice a week to help bathe them, give them a hair cut and try to cheer them with their visits.

Mr Cheong Loy who is an undertaker who runs the funeral parlour on the grounds of the Kwong Tong Cemetery in Sungei Besi, has opened the first floor of his shop to house these “guests”, he keeps accepting more people on the kindness and generosity of his heart. The centre has been around for more than 10+ years. The hospitals provide them with free medical care but the expenses for the centre comes from Mr Cheong Loy himself and from public’s contribution.

To further improve the well being of the Tong Sim Senior Citizen's Care Centre, we are currently actively collecting donations and support.

MOW CELEBRATE - Chinese New Year at Rumah Amal Murni, Kajang, Sunday, 3 Feb 2013

Mei tiao da jie siao siang
Mei geh ren di zhui lee
Jien mien di yi ju hua
Jiu si gong xi gong xi
Gong xi gong xi gong xi ni ah
Gong xi gong xi gong xi ni

It was a completely different atmosphere from when we first visited the home in Jan 2013. On Sunday, 3rd Feb 2013, residents at Rumah Amal Murni were in a festive and jovial mood, as they sang popular Chinese New Year songs, along with Sharon, Su Lan and other volunteers. Children from Mutiara Oriental Condo played the ukelele and guitar, and entertained the residents with several songs. Several of the residents, especially the ladies, were having so much fun singing that they didn't want to stop for lunch!

However, the trays of food were irresistible!!!

It was a special menu put together by Cafe Kaseh specifically for this Chinese New Year event. The kitchen crew must have started the preparation very early as the food was ready for collection when our MOW truck arrived at the Cafe at 10am.

Staff of Cafe Kaseh and MOW volunteers served and fed some of the residents who were not able to feed themselves. The rest of the residents were happily tucking into the sumptuous plates of food and enjoying the delicious meal.

Volunteers from MOW had a hearty meal too!

The fresh melon and some of the vegetables used were from a farm managed by the Rimbunan Kaseh Project, a sister company of Café Kaseh. If you wish to sample Cafe Kaseh's other menu items, do drop by at their restaurant at ...

D-7-6, Blok D, SetiaWalk,
Persiaran Wawasan, Pusat Bandar Puchong,
47160 Puchong, Selangor

After lunch, the residents nibbled on CNY cookies, chatted with the volunteers and received ang pows. It was evident that they missed their families especially during this festive season, and having people to talk to, and they really appreciate the care and concern showered on them on that day.

Of course, any MOW Celebrate event will not be complete without presentation of wish list items which included PVC mattress covers, bath towels, shorts/pants and tee-shirts, diapers, canned foods, Vico and a myriad of other groceries, household items and CNY cookies, some purchased by MOW and some by other well-wishers.

This was the first time MOW partnered with Cafe Kaseh for an event, and we hope this will be the first of many more. Thank you to Cafe Kaseh for your very generous sponsorship of the special CNY lunch.

To the committee, administrator, caretakers and residents of Rumah Amal Murni … our warmest appreciation for opening up your Home to us.

And of course, many thanks to our ever-supportive donors who contributed to this event …
