MOW CELEBRATE - Meals on Wheels brings smiles to Pusat Jagaan Nuri

Happy Birthday to Mdm Yap Kim Lan, Datin Mui Lan, Mdm Wendy Goh and Datin Li May!

Sunday, 29 April 2012 marked our visit to Pusat Jagaan Nuri at Setapak, Kuala Lumpur. All volunteers assembled at the Ti-Ratana Penchala centre before making our way there. It was really pleasant to welcome and see new faces amongst us.

After a merit-sharing prayers, we left for Setapak. The day also marked Meals on Wheels’ new van’s first maiden trip. Apart from ferrying the donated items on the wishlist, the van also carried six passengers on board.

Thank you to Datin Nariza Hashim for donating the new cabinets

Puan Nopisrah and the children at Pusat Jagaan Nuri were seen waiting for us upon our arrival. They gave us a warm welcome, followed by an introduction of the Centre by Puan Nopisrah. The children chipped in by singing us a few songs. In turn, we sang them a Chinese nursery rhyme to their amusement. Soon, they joined in and tried to learn the song from us together with coordinating hand movements!

The Ti-Ratana Meals on Wheels entourage sang and danced a Mandarin nursery rhyme for the kids as well as the all-time favourite Rasa Sayang

After the fun ice-breaking session, the children took turns to introduce themselves and told us their ambitions. Some wanted to be teachers, some aspired to become doctors.

The children introduced themselves individually

The sumptuous lunch comprising fried noodles, fried rice, nuggets, hotdogs and cupcakes, was catered by Puan Norashigim, a single mother herself. With full stomachs, we toured around the centre while the rest played and chatted with the children.

A generous family from Meals on Wheels entourage then presented small tokens of angpows to the children and caregivers of Pusat Jagaan Nuri. Another volunteer, Su Lee, pledged to furnish the Centre’s kitchen with proper cabinets.

We gathered for a group picture before bidding farewell to everyone. It was yet another fruitful and memorable initiative for all.
